Children’s Sunday Education Hour
Children ages 2 through 6th grade are invited to be a part of our exciting Sunday Education Hour at 9:30 a.m. on Sundays.
2’s and 3’s are in a self-contained classroom learning a new Bible story each week.
Kids in preschool on up are in age related groups. We have a Bible story unit that changes every 4 weeks. Different experiential workshops are offered each week based on the current story. Activities vary from cooking, drama, arts & crafts, videos, and more! Workshops are led by different people each month, but for stability in your child’s experience, each group has a adults who ‘shepherd’ them throughout the year.
Wednesday Midweek Programs
Our Wednesday midweek programs provide an opportunity for children to have additional time learning of God’s love for them. All programs meet from 6:45-8:15 p.m. with breaks during Advent (the 4 weeks before Christmas), Lent (the 7 weeks before Easter), and the summer.
Kids in Kindergarten through 4th grade are invited to “Hand in Hand”. Activities and lessons are in a large “one room schoolhouse” setting. Lessons include a Bible story, and application to living out their faith daily in their lives.
Confirmation is a two year program, for students usually in grades 5 & 6 (older students are welcome), teaching them about the Lutheran doctrine and living out their faith. Interactive lessons involve small group discussion and large group teaching time. Concepts from each week’s lesson are reviewed at home, with questions and Bible study weekly. The rite of confirmation (a public affirmation of baptismal vows) is in May at the completion of the 2 year instruction.
Vacation Bible School
Every August we have an exciting week of learning more about Jesus. VBS is open to all children age 4 to entering 6th grade.
Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten kids are in a special space with interactive centers for the morning. (include pictures of VBS – younger kids)
Older kids move daily to 4-5 different centers focused on the theme of the week and Bible story of the day. A volunteer staff of over 40 people welcome kids as they participate in Bible lessons, music, arts & crafts, memory activities and snack every morning from 9:30 a.m. to 12 noon. (include some of the center activities)
Special Events
Through out the year, St. Matthew sponsors special events for children and families. These may include Parent Time Out afternoons and Easter Egg Hunts. Because these events vary month to month and year to year, check out our calendar and news and events for special activities coming up soon.
