St. Matthew Lutheran Church believes in acting on our Mission Statement “Connect People to the love of Christ, Nurture people with a faith centered in Christ, and Empower people for Christian living in the world.” We believe we must do this inside and outside the walls of St. Matthew One of the very important ways that we do this is to be involved in and to support various mission endeavors locally and around the world. Following is information on the ministries around the world that we have been blessed to call partners.
St Matthew Sudanese began at St. Matthew in 1996. We are a growing congregation of Nuer speaking Christians from South Sudan. Our worship service is held on Sunday mornings at 11:00 am in room 212 of the Education Building at St. Matthew. We worship in our native Nuer language, and our singing is led by the beat of the drum. Lay Ministers share the message of God and His love with us each week. All are invited to join us.
Grace International: With a population of 23,000 Liberians, the Twin Cities is home to the second largest Liberian immigrant population in the US. Reaching these immigrants is the evangelism dream of Isaac William, Deacon of the Grace International Lutheran Church in Robbinsdale. Although most Liberians are Christian, Isaac and church members work to keep close ties with Liberian people who move to the Twin Cities so that they do not forget Jesus in their lives. The Liberians are learning from the mission work of the Hmong how best to reach new Liberian arrivals to keep their faith alive. Most Liberians come to the U.S. with very few possessions. Senior citizens especially are homesick, so Grace International members reach out to those in need by providing visitation and domestic assistance, as well as Word and Sacrament ministry. Their ministry is called the “Blessing Hand of Grace.” Grace International’s ministry is alive and growing with almost 70 people in worship on Sunday mornings.
