St. Matthew Lutheran Church has been in the Columbia Heights community since 1934. As a church, we want to be a people who are known by love, who live by faith and who are a voice of hope in a world that drastically needs hope.
Jesus told His disciples that they would be known by love (John 13:34). Our doctrine is vital, morality is critical, the causes we support or stand against are important, but none of these are what we are known by. We are known by love.
We don’t live by our knowledge, skills or experiences. We live by faith in Jesus and rely on his power to do what He calls us to do. (2 Corinthians 5:7).
Peter told his audience “But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect” (1 Peter 3:15). There are so many in the world that need hope. We want to be that voice of hope.
