We all go through times that we need to be cared for, listened to or comforted.

Paul wrote to the Corinthians, “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort,  who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God” (2 Corinthians 1:3-4). St. Matthew is a caring community where we learn to care for others during crisis and life changes.

One way we do that is through our BeFrienders Ministry.

Befrienders are called to be a listening friend to people going through crisis or life changes. BeFrienders go through an extensive training and are taught be bring God’s presence, be active listeners, be caring and not curing, and be non-judgmental.

CONTINUING EDUCATION OPPORTUNITY

If you would like to participate in a Virtual (on ZOOM) Continuing Education Event on Empathy and Kindness – contact Kathy Rosenberg. Cost is $25 per person (or discounted at $20 if we get ten or more people registered. The 90 min one time program on ZOOM is put on by the National BeFriender Ministry and is entitled “The Outsized Impact of Practicing Empathy and Kindness on Mind, Body, and Spirit” – this will be on Thursday October 26th from 6:30pm to 8:30pm. You do not need to be a registered BeFriender to attend this event.

“Research shows that our words and actions have a more powerful impact on others than we would ever predict. How does practicing empathy and kindness build community, boost our happiness, and foster joy in others? What are some simple ways to incorporate these qualities into our daily lives and ministries? Did you know that people who are kind and compassionate are more satisfied with their lives, have better physical and mental health, and have stronger relationships? Our seminar will include a multimedia presentation reviewing the latest neuroscience and psychology research on empathy and kindness. We will incorporate practices to nurture our spirits and take time for small group discussion. We hope you will join us and learn from nationally featured speaker and award winning author, Anne Kertz Kernion. ”
